Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia Leave 73 Wounded, Target Energy Facilities
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — At least 73 people were injured after Houthi forces launched attacks targeting civilian and energy-related sites in southern Saudi Arabia, Saudi authorities said Tuesday.
The attacks reportedly struck areas around Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jizan and Najran, with Saudi officials saying several civilian and economic facilities were targeted. Women and children were among those reported injured.
Saudi authorities also said the attacks caused fires at several energy facilities. Emergency crews were deployed to contain the fires, while some operations were temporarily suspended as officials assessed the damage.
The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying they used ballistic missiles and drones to target Saudi oil and economic facilities as well as a military air base. The group described the strikes as retaliation for Saudi military actions in Yemen. Those claims could not be independently verified.
The escalation has raised concerns across the region, particularly because Saudi Arabia is one of the world's largest oil producers and exporters. Any sustained disruption to the country's energy infrastructure could have consequences for global oil supplies and prices.
The latest attacks come amid continued tensions involving Yemen, Saudi Arabia and other regional powers, increasing fears that the conflict could expand and further destabilize the Middle East.
